Forty three civil society organisations met in Abuja Tuesday under the
auspice of the Civil Society Situation Room and called on the President
Goodluck Jonathan to immediately remove from office the Coordinating
Minister of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of
Petroleum, Diezani Alison Madueke and the Group Managing Director of
the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu.
In a communique issued at the end of their meeting, the Situation Room
also called on the National Assembly to convene an independent judicial
commission of inquiry to investigate allegations that USD 20 Billion
had been stolen from public revenues at the NNPC.
"Situation Room notes that 20 billion dollars would make a huge and
significant difference to the lives and living conditions of the
ordinary Nigerians and significant impact on collapsed infrastructure,
generate new jobs and revive industries and indeed address several
problems confronting the country," the communique stated.
