APC calls for fair policing in Rivers, other states
The All Progressives Congress(APC) has called for non-partisan policing in Rivers and other parts of the country by the Nigeria Police.
The call is contained in a communique issued on Thursday in Abuja after APC’s National Executive Committee meeting.
The communique was read to newsmen by Mr. Lai Mohammed, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the party.
The party, however, commended Gov. Rotimi Amechi for standing firm in the course of performing his legitimate duty.
The meeting was attended by party chieftains, including Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, Chief Bisi Akande and Chief Ogbonaya Onuh.
Similarly, a chieftain of the party, Sen. Bola Tinubu, has advised public office holders against actions capable of causing disaffection among the public.
Tinubu made the call while addressing newsmen at end of the meeting.
According to him, governments must be tolerant of oppositions and avoid anti-democratic conduct.
He denied any move by some aggrieved members of the party to create a faction in it.
Reacting to the same issue, Sen. Kabiru Gaya (APC-Kano State), also denied knowledge of any faction in the party.
He, however, expressed the intention to contest for the governorship election in the state in 2015.
